A couple years ago I began joining some @fpra_nwfl

A couple years ago I began joining some @fpra_nwfl events as a guest. I was starting @emeraldcoastwomen and knew this dynamic, educated, creative group of thinkers and doers would help me move my idea into reality. Just being in their company I feel inspired, motivated, and challenged to do better, and do more. Because #EmCoWo by its very mission utilizes communication via social media and web to help inspire and connect women, I knew this group would help me bring my organization to the next level.

Being furloughed earlier this year for an extended period of time affected the amount of personal resources, financial and otherwise, I could put into moving this mission forward. When the chapter announced the opportunity for a membership scholarship I applied and prayed that I would have this opportunity to gain even more knowledge and support to advance my communication strategy and help women in our communities create better lives for themselves.

I am so thankful that they have allowed me this opportunity and even more importantly I know what I will give and gain will help EmCoWo make a difference.

👋 Hey there, how are you today? Thats how I want to start this post because that’s what EmCoWo is about... connecting with you!

⏳ We may have been a little disconnected for a while, but sometimes when faced with trying times it’s important to unplug, recharge, and refill your own cup!

💙I’m Sharon, and I founded EmCoWo because I wanted to share stories and information that would help women feel more connected to each other, and spend less time comparing ourselves to one another.

📻 We’ve shared quite a few stories of brave women willing to be vulnerable on the EmCoWo Podcast, and we still have many more to share! Soon you’ll see the launch of our new season with the theme “Connect In 10”. Our ten minute episodes will help you learn more about one another, feel more connected, and more open to helping others feel the same. Even the busiest among us can sneak away for ten minutes, and that’s the reason for this change!

☀️ There are additional episodes taking more time to dig deeper into some subjects we hear you saying are important to you. But the goal is always the same. Go out there into your day knowing you are part of a brigade of amazing women who share in some of the same struggles and triumphs you experience every day. Be unafraid of reaching out, or even just giving that passing smile and nod of acknowledgement. We are all working hard just to “be”, and we could use each other’s help!

But this post isn’t going to be about Elijah. It’s going to be for the moms ...
Y’all, being a mom is HARD. I don’t think there are enough books, classes, or YouTube videos that can prepare you for motherhood. I’ve learned a lot in my first few weeks:
1. the comparison game is an evil one. No mom is the same. No baby is the same. Any blogger that “coasts” through the first few weeks of life, post c-section, back to pre baby weight in their 2 piece match yoga/bra set, & never talks about the TRUTH of sore/cracked nipples, the emotional roller coaster, the night sweats, & just flat out loneliness is truly doing a disservice to all of their followers. My advise for new moms: Don’t lose in the comparison game - It’s a dangerous one and has the most evil puppet master. Ive struggled my whole life in this game & worked hard to overcome this insecurity of mine but motherhood has magnified this insecurity tenfold. And no, you do not need that $1200 bassinet or $1300 stroller.... don’t get caught up in keeping up with the Joneses’ - message me and I’ll tell you exactly what you need 😝
2. Let. People. Help. - I tried to do be Super Mom once Brian went back to work. I had no one to prove anything to but why did I feel like I needed to do it all? Let your friends organize that meal train (*thank you notes coming soon* 😬), let your mom come take care of YOU, or go hide in a closet for a second & breathe. It truly does take a village so don’t deny someone the graces that awaits them 💖
3. SPOUSES: tell your wife how proud you are of her and she’s doing a good job. Verbal affirmations are KEY. Know she needs support like never before because most of the time, she feels like she is drowning
4. You do you boo 👻 Breastfeed - or don’t. Supplement - or don’t. Use a pacifier - or don’t. Take a nap with your baby on your chest - or don’t. I’ve followed all the rules & have broken almost all of them & trust me, we have a happier baby because of it
5. At 6 weeks, celebrate YOU & the killer job you’re doing - even if it is a pedicure on

Behind the mask, the sunglasses, or the brave front, there is often a person just needing someone to see them.

Whatever it is that’s stopping you from asking that person - even a stranger, “are you ok?” Just forget about it.

The small connection you make today could be the thing that eases another person’s despair. Don’t let pride, fear, judgement or anything else stop you from reaching out a hand of hope. 💜

Today we remember the thousands who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Included in that are hundreds of female warriors, and that number grows. Every year an estimated 180,000 men and women enlist in the US Armed Forces, pledging to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. They do this knowing the dangers of war, and the potential for this ultimate sacrifice. Let us not take that for granted. Let us not take THEM for granted 🙏
